    Lisa Bowerman (born 1 February 1962) is an actor and director. She played Karra in Survival, but is better known for her role as the Eighth Doctor's companion Professor Bernice Summerfield. She is the younger sister of Robin Bowerman.

    Biography

    Prior to Doctor Who

    Bowerman trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and was a regular in the first two series of BBC medical drama Casualtyplaying Sandra Mute, the show's first female paramedic.

    Work on Doctor Who

    Bowerman played Karra in the Season 26 story Survival. She was later cast as Eighth Doctor companion Bernice Summerfield and played the role regularly from Love and War-Hatred of the Daleks.

    Bowerman reprised the role in The Reckoning of Shadows, The Societal Step and the first movie.

    Bowerman later returned to the Doctor Who franchise as a Director, where she directed the Season 45 story The Death of Jensen and the Season 48 story The Man at the End of the Street. She also directed the Panopticon episodes Nature's Gift, When All is Said And Done and Election Day.

    Bowerman played a member of UNIT in Doctor Who: Genesis.

    After Doctor Who

    Her other television work includes: Dodgem, The Count of Solar, Grange Hill, The Vision Thing, Doctors, McCallum, Bad Girls and Night and Day. In 2007 she guest-starred as the home secretary's PA in Spooks, and returned to Casualty for a one-episode cameo role as a patient. In 2011 and 2012, she appeared in five episodes of Coronation Street as solicitor Jennifer Lingwood.

    She has recorded many plays for BBC Radios 3 & 4, and has worked extensively in theatre.

    In July 2014 Bowerman directed episodes 1 and 2 of the original audio drama series Osirisby Everybodyelse Productions, also The Coming of the Martians (aka The War of The Worlds) starring Colin Morgan, Nigel Lindsay & Ronald Pickup for Sherwood Sound Studios.

    Bowerman is also a professional photographer, and house committee chair and Trustee of Denville Hall the Actor's Retirement Home (and charity) as well as a former Trustee of The Actors' Charitable Trust.
