He began as quite distant and brooding, but throughout his time with Lou, alone, and, especially, after meeting Sandra Armstrong, he became much more lighthearted and jovial.

The Tenth Doctor was outgoing and genial. At first, he acted like his fifth incarnation and had somewhat of a subdued and reserved demeanour.
After travelling for a few adventures with Lou Madison, he began to behave more energetic and lively, while still keeping his core traits. This would remain the case by the time he met Sandra Armstrong and through much of his life.
