    Reaction

    • This episode received a 7-Day Viewing Figure from BARB of 10.31m viewers. It ranked at 1st over the week.

    Story Notes

    • As the 60s episodes of the programme had been colourised as part of Doctor Who: Remastered, this remains the only official episode of Doctor Who to be only in black and white. A colour version was made avaliable as a special feature on the Season 48 DVD and Blu-ray.
    • The title sequence featured was the version used on the original episode, An Unearthly Child, modified to include a BBC logo, the cast names, episode title and writer and lighting. This marks the sequence's first use since Episode 4 of The Moonbase in 1967, approximately 44 years prior; as such, The Phantom Doctor is the first episode since Part 2 of Spare Parts in 2003, to use a previously retired title sequence, rather than use the current one or introduce a new one.
