The following article is written from an Out of Universe perspective.

The Sands of Time was the second story of Season 40 of Doctor Who. It was written by Justin Richards, directed by Hettie MacDonald and featured Tom Baker as the Doctor and Mary Tamm as Romana.

     Synopsis

The Fourth Doctor is in 1903 London with Romana — a city shrouded in mystery. When Romana is kidnapped in the British Museum, the Doctor has to unlock the answers to a series of ancient questions. Their quest leads them across continents and time as an ancient Egyptian prophecy threatens future England. To save Romana, the Doctor must foil the plans of the mysterious Sadan Rassul. But as mummies stalk the night, an ancient terror stirs in its tomb.
