    Andrew Cartmel (born 1958) was the Script Editor for Doctor Who from Season 24 in 1987 to Season 27 in 1990.

    Biography

    Prior to Doctor Who

    Raised in Canada, he took a post-graduate course in Computer Studies and worked on computer-aided Design for shape Data Ltd (now UGS Corp) in Cambridge England during the mid-1980s before he turned to writting and gained an agent on the strength of two unproducoed scripts. He also attended workshops run by the BBC Television Drama Script Unit.

    Work on Doctor Who

    In 1987 Cartmel was hired as Script Editor for Season 24 of Doctor Who. He was recommended by the producer John Nathan-Turner's Agent, who had seen some unproducedsScripts he had written. Cartmel worked on the show for the next two years, he brought in new writers and took the series in a new creative direction.

    In 1990, Cartmel stepped down as Script Editor after Season 27 and was replaced by Ben Aaronovitch. In this season he also wrote the final story for Season 27 Blood and Iron which served as Sylvester McCoy's final story as the Seventh Doctor.

    After Doctor Who

    Cartmel went on to be a Script Editor on Casualty in 1990. He later wrote for the TV Series Dark Knight, the TV Documentary Echoes of the Past, and the short film The Iron Woman.

    Cartmel worked as an Assistant Producer on the TV Special One Night with Barry Manilow and later served as producer for the 2001 TV Movie Happy Birthday Brucie!
