What if Doctor Who Wasn't Axed?

The following article is written from an Out of Universe perspective.

Ben Dylan Aaronovich (born February 1964) was the Script Editor on Doctor Who from Season 28 in 1991 to Season 30 in 1993. Prior to this he had written two stories for Season 25 and Season 26.

    Prior to Doctor Who

Born in Camden, Aaronovitch is the son of economist Sam Aaronovitch, who was a senior member of the Communist party of Great Britain and the younger brother of actor Owen Aaronovitch and journalist David Aaronovitch. He attended Holloway School.

    Work on Doctor Who

In 1987, Aaronovitch began submitting scripts to the current Doctor Who script editor, Andrew Cartmel. These however were rejected but he was encouraged by Cartmel to keep trying. Aaronovitch eventually wrote the first story for Season 25 - Remembrance Of The Daleks. Remembrance also introduced the Cartmel Master Plan. Aaronovitch then wrote for Season 26 to contribute the story Battlefield as the second of the new season.

When Ian Fraser took office as Doctor Who's new producer, he began to look for a new Script Editor, Cartmel told him very firmly that it had to be Ben Aaronovitch. With not many alternatives, Fraser agreed to hiring Aaronovitch as the new Script Editor and Michael Wearing cautiously approved of the decision. Aaronovitch decided to continue the Cartmel Master Plan and also continued to write several more stories for the series.

Aaronovitch would continue to be the script editor up until the 30th Anniversary Special The Lords of Time, Aaronovitch stepped down as Script Editor at the same time as when Ian Fraser stepped down as producer, he was replaced by Colin Brake.

    After Doctor Who

Aaronovitch went on to write episodes for Casualty, Jupiter Moon and Dark Knight, in 2003 he served as an Assistant Director on the short film Clinic.
