The following article is written from an In Universe perspective.

Apolonia "Pola" Pisarek was a companion of the Doktor.

    Biography

    Early Life

Pola's parents named her after actress Pola Raksa, star of classic Polish TV show "Czterej Pancerni i Pies". Benek Jackiewicz, as a fan of the show, found it 'wicked', but Pola herself isn't too proud of this, as she sees her name as old-fashioned. (POL: The Third Dimension)

    Meeting the Doktor

    Travels with Doktor I

When the TARDIS landed on Skaro, the Doktor lied about the fluid link needing more mercury, when there was nothing wrong, so he could explore a nearby city. The Daleks imprisoned the Doktor and Pola inside the city, confiscating the fluid link they brought along.

Having escaped, they assisted the Thals in their attack on the Dalek city. The Daleks' power supply was damaged in the attack. The Daleks died and their plans to flood the atmosphere with radiation failed. (POL: The Dead Planet)

While attempting to return Pola home, the Doktor accidentally took the TARDIS to The People's Republic of Poland in 1979, and the pair discovered that the TARDIS exterior had reduced in size. Staying behind in the TARDIS to investigate the effect, the Doktor sent Pola to look around and find the cause. Pola met Benek Jackiewicz and his fellow factory workers, and learned that people had been disappearing in the area, with murals of them appearing on the walls of a pedestrian tunnel. Upon returning, Pola discovered that the TARDIS had shrunk further, preventing the Doktor from getting out. However, the doorway was still large enough for him to pass Pola a nanotechnological device that allowed him to communicate with Pola and see through her eyes. Putting the small TARDIS in her handbag, Pola set off to find the source of the dimensional leeching.

Pola once again met Benek, and they investigated the disappearances. The Doktor realised that they were dealing with beings from a two-dimensional universe, who were sucking people into flat surfaces. As the two-dimensional entities were advancing on them, Pola and Benek escaped the danger and, when the Doktor realised that the murals were actually the creatures taking forms of their victims, Pola and the rest of the factory at the tunnel hid in a nearby engine repair warehouse. While the group was confused and disorientated, Pola became the leader and attempted to bring them to safety. As the creatures had gradually picked off the factory workers workers, Pola, Rychu and Benek became the only survivors. The Doktor claimed that he had discovered a way to send the creatures back to their dimension but didn't have enough power to do so. In the chaos, the TARDIS was dropped down a shaft onto a railway. Fleeing from the creatures, Pola found the TARDIS in siege mode on the tracks and devised a plan to restore its power. She asked Benek to paint a fake door with a flattened handle and placed the TARDIS behind it. Attempting to de-flatten the fake handle so that they could open the "door", the creatures unknowingly pumped dimensional energy into the TARDIS, restoring it to its proper size and full power. The Doctor emerged from the TARDIS and, taking his sonic screwdriver back from Clara, sent them back to their dimension. When the threat was over, the Doctor took the survivors to the surface. Having come to respect Benek, Pola asked the Doktor if he could come travel with them, to which the Doctor accepted. (POL: The Third Dimension)

Travels with Doktor I and Benek

The Doktor and Pola began their travels with Benek, first travelling to 1410 Masuria, where they discovered a TARDIS belonging to Mnich. (POL: Scissored Time)

The Doctor landed on an island on Marinus. Arbitan asked them to search for the keys to the reprogrammed Conscience of Marinus to regain control over the Voord, as all of his followers and family members had failed to retrieve them.

They first arrived on Morphoton. Pola released Arbitan's daughter, Sabita and the rest of the city from the Morpho's mind control, and retrieved the first key.

Benek and Pola found a fake key in the Screaming Jungle and, after surviving several traps, were told the proper location of the second key by Darrius. The third key was found in a mountain cave and was guarded by Ice Soldiers.

Escaping the soldiers, Benek reached Millennius, where he was knocked out and framed for the murder of Eprin. The Doktor helped discover the true culprit, and Benek was spared execution. The fourth key was found inside the mace that killed Eprin when the man sent to fetch the key was captured.

The Doktor and his companions returned to Arbitan's island, where Arbitan had been murdered. Benek handed the Voord the fake key, which destroyed the Conscience, along with the Voord. They left in the TARDIS. (POL: The Search)

The TARDIS landed in Earth's Stone Age. The Doktor was taken by Kal, who had apparently seen him produce fire from his fingers (the Doktor had been lighting a fire using matches). Pola and Benek tried to rescue the Doktor, but were taken to the Cave of Skulls. Matula released the Doktor and his companions because she did not want them to bring fire back to her tribe, and they escaped into a nearby forest. Benek and Pola aided Za's injuries from an animal when he tried to chase after them, but were returned to the cave. Benek produced fire for the tribe and devised a way of scaring the cavemen by setting the skulls on fire. The group escaped to the TARDIS, which took off again. (POL: The Cavemen)

After the TARDIS landed on Deva Loka, Pola accidentally fell asleep at the place of shared dreams, allowing the Mara to enter her mind and possess her until it left her for Aris, a Kinda, after which it was seemingly destroyed using mirrors. (POL: The Mara)

The Doktor, Pola and Benek arrived in Roctow in 1997, where they exposed the scheme of a conman, who was posing as an insurance agent with exceptionally beneficial offers. Despite exposing the con artist, this still left his victims without an insurance in face of the oncoming flood. Pola helped the victims to build provisional floodbanks and other protections, forcing the Doktor to help them as well. Together, they managed to save the district, though most of the city was still flooded. (POL: Flood of the Millennium)

    Taking a break

Pola's mind later fell under the control of the supercomputer WOTAN. She was sent to work at the warehouse, where she was assigned to watch over Benek, who had been captured. However, Pola's mind resisted WOTAN's control long enough for Benek to escape. For punishment, Porucznik Kwiatkowaski sent her to Bryl's office, where she assisted Bryl and KrΔ™pian with running WOTAN. Benek later freed her just as WOTAN was destroyed by one of its own War Machines.

Afterwards, Pola decided to stay in Warsaw for a break, and asked the Doktor to come and collect her in a month. (POL: WOTAN)

    Return to the TARDIS

A month later, Pola reunited with the Doktor and Benek. The TARDIS team, along with JEDNOSTKA discovered that the Sea Devils, a race of underwater reptiles, who inhabited the planet long before humans evolved. The Sea Devils intended to start a war with humanity and reclaim the planet. Pola and Benek stayed behind at JEDNOSTKA HQ, while the Doktor tried and failed to negotiate a peaceful solution with the Sea Devils in their underwater base, as JEDNOSTKA forces attacked them with depth charges. After the Doktor escaped the base, the Sea Devils captured JEDNOSTKA HQ. The leader of the Sea Devils forced the Doktor to help build a sonar device that would awaken more Sea Devil bases. As the Doktor incapacitated the Sea Devils with the noise made by plugging the device improperly, Pola and Benek subsequently brought Anastazy Lubica-Stugocki with them to get JEDNOSTKA reinforcements to fight against the Sea Devils and recapture JEDNOSTKA HQ. The Doktor eventually scared the Sea Devils back to the sea, but believed that they would return. (POL: From the Sea)

    New adventures

The TARDIS returned to Skaro, where Pola became infected by an indigenous plant, after being cured, Pola and Benek helped the Thals defeat the Dalek army being assembled on Skaro. (POL: Return to the Dead Planet)

The Doktor, Pola and Benek arrived in 1440 Kwydzn, where they thwarted a plan by Mnich to prevent the creation of the Prussian Union. (POL: Revenge of the Meddler)
