The following article is written from an Out of Universe perspective.

Season 4 of The Elysium was broadcast in two parts in the Summer and Autumn of 2018.

    Overview

    Renewal for Season 4

The Elysium was renewed for a fourth season when Season 3 was still on the air as the BBC, CBS, and Netflix were impressed with the viewing figures of the season.

However, Pre-Production started almost immediately as they had to rush the first six episodes out of the door as they had to fill in a gap between Parts One and Two of Season 52 of Doctor Who.

    Creative Team

Between Seasons 3 and 4 of The Elysium, the show went under several changes within the creative team.

Due to him no longer being the franchise executive, Ronald D. Moore stood down as an executive producer. While Jane Espenson and Toni Graphia remained as executive producers, Graphia was promoted as co-showrunner of the show due to Espenson taking over from Moore as the franchise executive.

The co-executive producers would change as well, Adrian Hodges stepped down as a co-executive producer so he can be one on Doctor Who on top of this, Emer Kenny stepped down as a co-exe as well.

Simon Ashdown and Anne Kenney remained on as co-exe's and Espenson brought on Doug Petrie and Scott Reynolds as two new co-exe's to work on the show.

David Brown left the show as a Producer, But Shaina Fewell and Michael Wilson remained on as Producers and due to the short time of Production of the season, Espenson had Martin Harrison who was a producer for another project for Left Bank Pictures' The Crown to come on as a producer for The Elysium.

    Production

Filming began on The Elysium in January and finished in early September with the show being produced by Left Bank Pictures and being filmed at once again, Wardpark Film and Television Studios in North Lanarkshire, Scotland.

    Storytelling Concept

Due to the first six episodes being have to be rushed out the door, Graphia made the executive decision to have the first half tell low key character piece episodes with the second half of being big CGI sci-fi episodes.

    Broadcast

Part One of Season 4 was broadcasted between the 17th of June 2018 to the 22nd of July 2018 on BBC One, CBS, and Netlfix releasing the episodes internationally the next day and Part Two was broadcasted between the 21st of October 2018 to the 25th of November 2018 on BBC One, CBS, and Netflix releasing the episodes internationally the next day.
