Brigadier Winifred Bambera was a member of UNIT in the United Kingdom.

Biography

UNIT career

1990's

After Crichton's departure, she was promoted to Brigadier. As Brigadier and leader of UNIT, she worked with the Seventh Doctor and retired UNIT Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart against Mordred, when he and his knights came across a dimensional gateway in Carbury. She also met and fought alongside the knight Ancelyn. She took a quick liking to both Doris Lethbridge-Stewart and Ace; after the battle, the three went drove off for a "girls' day out". 2000's

In 2004 Winifred met both the Ninth Doctor and Janet Wells and asked for their help in investigating the disappearance of a teenager and a Policewoman who kept drawing cave paintings on the wall after she had went to investigate the boy's disappearance. When both the Doctor and Janet had disappeared, Bambera brought troops with her to Smallmarshes in Kent, where a Silurian was seen, to find them. Later, after returning to HQ, Bambera received a report that the Doctor, a Silurian, and the missing teenager Marc Marshall had been taken aboard a stealth plane. A group of UNIT troops led by Bambera followed the aircraft to the Vault in Northumberland. The Doctor and Janet, along with the Silurian hybrid Tahni, were rescued and the Pale Man's plans to conquer the world were stopped, but the Pale Man had escaped capture and Marc's heart gave out. In 2007 Bambera learned that a group of Silurians had awoken and were demanding their planet back. Bambera attempted to help the Prime Minister Angela Jensen come to an agreement with the Silurians, but both sides refused to make any kind of agreement, causing Bambera to summon the Doctor for help. With help from the Twelfth Doctor, a peace agreement was eventually reached. (DW: The Silurian Awakening)

Later on Bambera was contacted by the Doctor who informed her that the village of Lancashire had been invaded by the Shalka. Bambera arrived with several UNIT troops and helped to evacuate the village. She later helped capture a Shalka. Bambera informed the Doctor that none of the evacuees had arrived at the intended destination, but had iinstead arrived in the middle of nowhere. Bambera told the Doctor about the captured Shalka. At some point in 2009 Bambera was promoted to Major General. (DW: Cannon Fodder)

Later on when a missile from an intergalactic war accidentally struck Earth, Bambera and UNIT were called in to help investigate and to prep for a potential war with an alien race or another country. Bambera called in the Doctor to help investigate. She was relieved when it was discovered to be a simple mistake. (DW: Cannon Fodder)

2010's

When everyone in the world was made immortal, Bambera contacted Katie Tollinger and asked her and the rest of Leftover to come to London to help figure out what had happened. She later met with Angela Jensen and explained that she had summoned the Leftover team. Winifred later met Katie and Liz Shaw after they'd snuck into 10 Downing Street and confirmed their identities to Angela. Winifred sent UNIT troops to go pick up Jo, Sarah Jane and Mel from Los Angeles. Winifred later sent in troops to arrest Daniel F. Harvey, the American President. Once it was discovered that both he and Henrick were working with the Mitahi, Bambera along with Katie interrogated Henrick.

After Henrick sacrificed himself to restore death, Bambera along with the rest of Leftover attended his funeral where they met the Thirteenth Doctor. (MOV: Leftover: End of Days)

Alternate timelines

In an alternate timeline where the Third Doctor was killed by Morka and the Silurians conquered Earth, Bambera joined a small group of survivours. In 1994, she joined Henrick to recover the TARDIS of the Eighth Doctor. On the way back with it to Wenley Moor, the party was attacked by Imorkal. Bambera died from her injuries. (DW: Blood Heat)

In an alternate timeline where Angela was married to a man named Sebastian Jensen, Sebastian became acting Prime Minister due to Angela's absence and ruled the UK as a dictatorship. Bambera led a resistance group against Sebastian, and with help from the Twelfth Doctor, Angela and Lizzie, they overthrew him. (DW: Burning Books)

In an alternate timeline where the Twelfth Doctor stayed on as Lord President of Gallifrey, the Silurians forced Angela to surrender Earth to them. Bambera was killed by Ishkin. (DW: Mad World)

Personality

Much like her predecessor, Bambera was a strong-willed and stern leader. (DW: Battlefield) She too held the Doctor in high regard, calling upon him when she felt UNIT needed him. (DW: The Scales of Injustice, The Silurian Awakening, Cannon Fodder) This trust also extended to the Leftover team. (MOV: Leftover: End of Days)

Physical Appearance

During her first two encounters with the Doctor, Bambera appeared as a tall, dark-skinned woman in her late thirties. (DW: Battlefield) By the time she met the Ninth Doctor, Bambera appeared more middle-aged. (DW: The Scales of Injustice)

Hair and grooming

Winifred had dark brown, stuck-up hair. (DW: Battlefield)

Clothing

During her time as a Brigadier, Bambera wore the uniform of a Brigadier. (DW: Battlefield) After being promoted, she wore a Major General's uniform. (DW: Cannon Fodder)
