The following article is written from an Out of Universe perspective.

Season 32 of Doctor Who ran between 22 July 1995 and 16 December 1995. It starred Richard Griffiths as the Doctor and Lisa Bowerman as Bernice Summerfield in their last season of the show; both of whom departed at the end of the final story.

    Overview

     Format and chapter details

This season consisted of seven stories with twenty-two 25-minute episodes. It was the sixth season in Chapter Two Part III of Doctor Who.

    Killing Eighth and Benny

Richard Griffiths announced early on that he was to leave the show. He exclaims that 'although it was a joy to be a part of popular culture, times change and it's necessary to move on as well', adding that he felt that his time was up.

Lisa Bowerman also announced that Bernice was to leave as well in the season finale that also saw the Eighth Doctor regenerate in perhaps the most daring regeneration story of all time which featured the Daleks. Following the departure of Henrick as well as Eight and Bernice soon, it felt necessary for the season to just feature the two of them as Garwood wanted to tie things smoothly between Doctors and companions.

    Planets and more planets

The BBC suggested to Garwood and Brake that Doctor Who should contain more alien planets to compete against Star Trek amongst other sci-fi shows. Among this announcement, fans were concerned with how the show would progress in case it would get too Americanised.

    Stories

The seven stories featured in this season include an alien chase, a fire in the future, exploring Bernice's father, the return of the Sontarans, an annual killing spree, the power and consequences of ruling Earth and the return of the Daleks ahead of a regeneration.
