Overview
The Julie Gardner Controversy
During production of Series 1, There was notable tension between Showrunner and Script Editor, Marc Platt and Executive Producer, Julie Gardner. The tension was caused over their constant bickering over the portrayal of Gallifrey. With Gardner wanting to portray the show in a more human portrayal with Platt wanting to make it more alien in feel.
After months of constant bickering, The BBC stepped in and removed Gardner as BBC Wales' Executive Producer for the franchise, This also lead to Producer, David Richardson departing at the end of the series and Platt leaving after Series 3 was completed.
Creative Changes
Platt would remain on as Script Editor and Showrunner for the series, With Gardner, Ira Steven Behr, Gary Russell, and Robert Shearman serving as the Executive Producers for the series.
Due to several reasons. The writers room would go under heavy changes, Jane Espenson and Nicholas Briggs remained on as Co-Executive Producers. But, David Weddle, Bradley Thompson, Mark Wright and Cavan Scott would join them as co-executive producers.
Cast Changes
While the majority of the cast would remain unchanged between series'. Long-time franchise characters Fen Do'nel and Francs would depart at the end of episode four. And recurring Series 1 character, Kendara would be promoted to a series regular in episode five.
