Overview
Creative Changes
Ronald D. Moore remained on as a Executive Producer and as a showrunner, Ira Steven Behr and Faith Penhale remained on as Executive Producers, Gary Russell departed the series as a Executive Producer due to Doctor Who not being on the air, But. Russell came on as a Consulting Producer alongside Martin Campbell and Marc Platt.
Jane Espenson would remain in her position as Chief Staff Writer, With David Weddle, Bradley Thompson, and Michael Angeli remaining on as Co-Executive Producers, Joining the writing team as a Co-Executive Producer would be John Dorney, Who was offered the position by Moore has he was impressed with his script from the previous series.
Cast Changes
Due to Timothy Dalton departing the show at the end of the previous series, The Rogue's main rival from the previous series, Gregori (played by Peter Capaldi) would step up to the position as the main character of the show, While this was done. Central character, Will Adams (played by David Tennant) was still kept in the limelight due to Will being the human character and was the character that audience's could identify with the most, The other main characters remained on with Kendara (played by Karen Gillan), Cordale (played by Emma Caulfield), and Fassile (played by Alexander Siddig) would all take up major roles this series.
Joining the main cast would be Doctor Who Companion, Zenla (played by Juliet Landau) who would now be Gregori's Chief of Staff, Rodan (played by Miranda Raison) who would fill in the empty regular slot that was left empty after Episode 7, And, Gordra (played by Graham McTavish) who was a recurring character in the previous series. But due to the character's popularity. Was promoted to a series regular by Moore.
Toning Down the Darkness
While Series 4 was heavily critically acclaimed, A small vocal group of fans were unhappy with the dark tone and feel in series 4, specifically with the Cordale rape story-line. Due to this backlash, Moore decided to tone down the dark feel and tone to show, While also giving a satisfying conclusion to the rape story-line.
Title Sequence Changes
Due to the heavy backlash with the Series 4 title sequence, Moore got permission from the BBC to commission a new title sequence and theme. Like with the series 4 title sequence, Bear McCreary did the theme for the title sequence, But the visuals of the titles were done by D8 Creative Agency.
