The following article is written from an Out of Universe perspective. |
The Hostage is the third story in Season 28 of Doctor Who. It was written by Neil Penswick, directed by Michael Kerrigan and featured Richard Griffiths as the Doctor, Julia Sawalha as Katie Tollinger and John Banks as Henrick.
This story is notable for adding more mythology to The Great Vampires who had only appeared once in State of Decay.
Synopsis
In an attempt to lighten the Doctor's mood, his companions Katie and Henrick suggest an investigation of a planetary system of seven planets that had seemingly vanished. The TARDIS materializes on the worst of the seven and the three are assailed by multiple types of threats. The Doctor is thrown into another universe entirely with Katie. Henrick, in the normal universe, soon realizes the source of the dangers come from the Doctor's own past.
